The Vos
Government School was established on 25th January 1956. It was
constructed by Trinidad Leaseholds Limited (the precursor company to
Texaco, Trintoc and Petrotrin) on lands owned by them and donated to the
community. This was in response to chronic overcrowding at Gasparillo
Government School.
Vos was originally called The New Government School but at the official
opening the name was changed to Vos Government in honour of Simon J. Vos
the then General Manager of Trinidad Leaseholds Limited.
In its fifty years history Vos has been the outstanding school in
Gasparillo and one of the more prominent schools in the Victoria Education
District. It has consistently performed well in academics, in athletics,
in football, in cricket, in Junior Red Cross and in other extra curricular
and co-curricular activities. Prior to 1985 the school Garden was
consistently judged one of the best in any school in the community. The
semi official anthem of the school has been.
Vos is the boss, that never loss
And if we loss we still the boss
Our students have on occasion been in the top one hundred at the S.E.A.
We have on two occasions been National Primary Schools Football
Champions. In 2006 our girls were the Champions in the Stern John
Football Skills Award Programme. Again on two occasions we have been the
best link nationwide in the Junior Red Cross.
The school has won over one hundred trophies for athletics, football and
cricket. We also have had past pupils who won athletic scholarships at
universities in the United States and others who have represented the
nation at the Olympic Games even last year in China.
At present the student population is four hundred and six. On average the
student intake is fifty. |
